THE CULTURAL PARK OF MANTUA LAKES. A new integrated strategy for the water city regeneration - 7a Biennal 2012

PAOLA EUGENIA FALINI, PATRIZIA PULCINI, MONICA SGANDURRA

The Cultural Park of Mantua Lakes is one of the most important projects promoted by the Municipality of the town since its nomination on the World Heritage List in 2008. According to the Management Plan of the Unesco site elaborated for the nomination, a new policy aimed to rehabilitate and rehance the historical and constitutive relation between the city and the Mincio lakes water system was undertaken.
Based on the acknowledgement of Mantua’s entire area as a broad inherited water landscape (i.e. 1), and the current situation (i.e. 2), the proposal involved the whole lake basin as a Cultural Park, the Cultural Park of Mantua Lakes, with a general Master Plan (i.e. 3) and its implementation projects for all the Mantua territory (i.e.4) and with two different series of pilot projects, one concerning the historic city (the Lakefront project, the Palazzo Te Island project, one the surrounding peri-urban and agricultural areas (the Cerese Isle project, the Paiolo project) (i.e. 5-9).
