Guidelines for the Quality of Cultural Landscapes of Assisi - 8a Biennal 2014

PAOLA EUGENIA FALINI, PATRIZIA PULCINI

These Landscape Guidelines are the management tool promoted by the City of Assisi, which was inscribed in the World Heritage List in 2000, to ensure the active protection of its landscape.
They represent the first example of Landscape Guidelines applied to a Unesco site and they have been integrated on the new PRG-PS (adopted 2010 - approval in 2014) together with the Management Plan of the site.
Drawn up in the light of the persisting characters and the overall state of integrity of the Assisi landscape components, these guidelines identify both the general Landscape Contexts System and the related individual landscapes by which the general system is made up. In the same time, the Guidelines establish the rules and individuates the best actions for an active protection.
With concern to the whole municipal territory , the General Area of Landscape Protection of Assisi has been delineated as well as the Areas of Special Protection defined. Furthermore, on a landscape-based scale, landscape projects have been proposed in terms of Landscape Quality Objectives to be pursued (landscape protection, management and planning). Similarly, recommendations/good practices ,to be implemented with the support of a repertoire/abacus of the specific operative rules and guidelines for each component, have been elaborated.
