WEAVING THE AIR
Ephemeral prototype for agricultural vertical growth.
Canary Islands. Tenerife, Güimar agricultural Valley. Cultivated landscape from the Atlantic Ocean to the slopes of volcano Teide. The object is creates an agricultural cultivation system that optimizes and exploits the environmental conditions of the Valley, and thus can regenerate the landscape of this rural zone. Creepers create, naturally, a vertical weaving of Air and vegetation. The keys of the landscape and the weather conditions of this valley are studied like a necesary inputs for the project. The prototype supports any type of climbing plant. It has the capacity to be recycled, reused and moved to any position and different types of terrain. The main material used is a traditional Canarian rope. Manufactured with vegetable fiber from ¨Pita plant¨. It is named ¨Soga¨. It has different diameters and different resistances against the weight and tensile forces. It is biodegradable, and 100% compatible with the vertical growth of different plants, and at the same time it is good to absorb humidity for plants. The other material that is part of the supporting structure is steel, using tubular profiles. Both materials are removable. The proportion of materials used in the prototype is 95% Soga + 5% Steel. The system is 100% compatible with the agricultural landscape of this valley. The system facilitates the wind permeability and maximizes capturing sunlight and humidity by vertical crops.
