The Architects’ Association of Catalonia will again be present at Architect@Work Barcelona. This year’s trade show, which will take place on 15 and 16 March at the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB), will revolve around the theme “Natural Resources”.

Architect@Work has been held since 2003 in different European cities with the aim of publicising the latest trends in the sector, in a relaxed atmosphere that facilitates networking between professionals and companies. It includes a programme of side events with the participation of prominent speakers.

The COAC will there with a stand that aims to highlight the role of architecture in improving people’s health and the energy efficiency of buildings. The COAC Building Rehabilitation Technical Office will be there to offer information on NextGenerationEU funds for the rehabilitation of homes. In addition, as part of the show’s programme of events, the COAC is holding the conference “Decarbonising Architecture”, by Albert Cuchí, president of the Architecture and Sustainability Association (AuS).

COAC conference: Decarbonising Architecture
Decarbonisation is a decisive challenge facing our society, and architecture is no stranger to this: there will be no transition to a decarbonised society without an energy-efficient building stock. The conference, which will be held on 16 March 16 at 6 pm, wants to show how decarbonisation is changing the profession and the leadership role we as architects have to assume.

Through its participation in the event, the COAC hopes to continue working to make the profession a determining asset. It already began working towards this objective, and the Sustainable Development Goals, when it first organised the “Decarbonising Architecture” conference last November, which was well attended.

Free registration
COAC members who are interested in visiting the trade show can register for free.

The latest issue of the COAC journal, Quaderns d’Arquitectura i Urbanisme, “L’ofici de pensar” (The craft of thinking) is available for COAC members.

Under the direction of architects Joseph Ferrando and Marta Poch, issue 273 aims to reflect on the role of architects in building habitat and architectural thinking as they go through the project process.

Using a scientific approach and organised around five methods, the publication analyses the processes of a total of 25 architecture firms in the pre-crisis and post-crisis stages in order to identify their creative map and how they approach architecture in the current context. The following architecture firms are included in the journal: 300.000km/s, Aixopluc, Arquitectura–G, Arquitecturia, Barozzi Veiga, Anna & Eugeni Bach, Bosch Capdeferro, Carles Enrich Studio, DATAAE, Albert Faus, Flexo, Goig, Grau Casais, HARQUITECTES, López Rivera, MAIO, Mendoza Partida, Mirla, Lluís Ortega, PERIS+TORAL, Núria Salvadó, Unparelld’arquitectes, Jorge Vidal, Ferran Vizoso, Vora.

In order to provide a more cross-cutting view of the Catalan architectural scene, the volume also includes contributions from 5 global critics from academia and 5 local critics, who will offer a synopsis of what 5 different generations of Catalans brought to architectural thought. The contributors include names like Philip Ursprung, Beth Galí and Arturo Franco, among others.
