Assumpció Puig, the first female dean in COAC history
Assumpció Puig’s candidacy proved the winner in the elections for the Governing Board of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia, held on 9 and 10 May. She walked away with 1,238 votes, with Ramon Torra and Enric Mir receiving 600 and 385, respectively, and 168 blank ballot papers. She is thus the first female dean in the history of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia.

COAC Elections 2018
The Architects’ Association of Catalonia is calling elections on 10 May to appoint its governing bodies and representatives. Association members can exercise their right to vote for the people who will be heading the institution and representing its architects as a professional body for the next four years.

Growth in the construction sector, still at minimal levels,...
In 2017, the area of authorised building projects in Catalonia grew by 9%, representing a slowdown in the growth experienced in the last two years. The drop of 17% in the largest projects was offset by a very positive increase in small and medium-sized ones. The regions of Barcelona and Girona showed the most consistent growth, which, however, is still not being reflected in the other regions. Building renovation continues to be at a standstill, which is a very worrying factor..

The recovery of the construction industry in Catalonia is...
In the first six months of 2017, the surface area of projects in execution increased compared to the last six months of 2016, but is still at a very low level with a very uneven regional distribution, the majority of projects being concentrated around the city of Barcelona. Comprehensive building renovation only accounts for 30% of the authorized surface area and there are no immediate signs of growth.

Building in Catalonia is growing, but the sector has yet to...
On Thursday, 14 July, at a meeting open to the media, the COAC took stock of the situation of the construction and building renovation sector in Catalonia over the first six months of 2016. This period ended with a total surface area of 1,662,812 m2 authorized for construction, 15.68% more than the previous six-month period and 15.05% more than the same period last year.
