Finalists for the European Prize for Urban Public Space 2016
The European Prize for Urban Public Space is a biennial contest organised by seven European institutions with the aim of recognising and giving exposure to projects that create, recover or improve public spaces. This year, 276 entries have been received from 33 different countries.
Amongst the 25 finalists are three projects by Catalan architects or teams: ·New elevator to the historical centre of Gironella, by Carles Enrich. ·Decoration for Plaça de Sant Miquel in Olot, by unparelld'arquitectes (Eduard Callís and Guillem Moliner). ·Recovery of the irrigation system of the thermal gardens of Caldes de Montbui, by Cíclica (Marta Serra and Elena Albareda) and CAVAArquitectes (Jordi Calbetó).
The final verdict will be made public at the ceremony to be held at the CCCB on 4 July. The 25 finalist projects will form part of a touring exhibition which will visit a number of European cities over the next two years.

Unprecedented success of Catalan architects at La Biennale di Venezia
Moreover, this year the Golden Lion for the best national pavilion has been awarded to Spain, thus distinguishing the group of 55 emerging architects, 23 of which are Catalan, and highlighting their creativity and commitment to transcending the limitations of the economic crisis
Without a doubt, the Jury's decision will have been particularly influenced by the experience of Catalan architects in the task of rehabilitating and transforming cities. To all this, we should add that the Biennale's director, the Chilean Alejandro Aravena (winner of the last Pritzker Architecture Prize), selected four Catalan practices for the Biennale's International Architecture Exhibition, ‘Reporting from the Front’: Enric Batlle and Joan Roig; Eduardo Cadaval and Clara Solà-Morales; Fabrizio Barozzi and Alberto Veiga; and Toni Gironès.
Meanwhile, the project ’Aftermath_Architecture beyond architects’, curated by Catalan architects Jaume Prat and Jelena Prokopljević along with filmmaker Isaki Lacuesta, highlights seven public architectural interventions chosen as examples of architecture that improves the relationship between users and their surroundings. The Catalan project has generated considerable interest and critical acclaim and is one of the 30 projects recommended by the Wallpaper magazine.
The COAC would like to congratulate all the Catalan architects taking part for the recognition they have achieved as a result of their professional efforts. At the same time, it wishes to highlight how contemporary Catalan architecture has managed to deal with this far-reaching crisis by exploring new ways of meeting society's needs. Venice has welcomed them as leaders in their field precisely because of this demonstration of sensibility and skill. There is, however, still some way to go: our business network and sector have been so devastated that decisive government support is still needed.

Also, the installation features two further special collaborations: the Vora Arquitectura firm (Pere Buil and Toni Riba), which was commissioned to design the ‘Taulacreu’ table; and architect Josep Ferrando, who designed the ‘Biennale’ chair.
Finally, it should also be noted that Catalan architect Jordi Pimàs was one of the curators of the French Pavilion.
La revista Arquitectura i Urbanisme, digitalitzada
La revista recull els diversos corrents de l’arquitectura catalana del moment, des de les obres més acadèmiques i noucentistes als edificis moderns i l’arquitectura d’avantguarda. També teoritza sobre el nou paper de l’arquitecte i de les entitats que el representen i posa de relleu la importància que es volia donar a l’arquitectura escolar i hospitalària a Catalunya.
La digitalització realitzada permet la consulta per paraula, fet que ofereix moltes possibilitats de cara a la cerca i explotació dels continguts.

Entrega de los Premios COAC para Trabajos de Investigación 2016
El primer premio fue para el trabajo "Un paso más allá de la oscuridad" , de la alumna María Trujillo del Instituto Hug Roger III de Sort. Los accésit fueron para el trabajo " Luz para todos" , de Erik Navarro y Jon Martínez del Instituto de Aran de Vielha, y para " La Geotermia" , de Claudia Doria y Anna Rey del Instituto Joan Brudieu de la Seu d'Urgell
Premios COAC para trabajos de investigación
El objetivo del premio es fomentar el interés entre los alumnos de bachillerato por los trabajos de búsqueda e investigación relacionados con la arquitectura y el diseño; la ciudad y el urbanismo; el territorio y el paisaje; y la ecología y la sostenibilidad. El jurado del premio estaba formado por el delegado del Pirineo de la Demarcación de Lleida del COAC, Ricard Lobo, y dos arquitectos vinculados a la Delegación, David Juárez y Juan Marquet.
