The COAC starts rolling out Architecture lessons in schools

The Architects’ Association has started pilot tests to spread the teaching of architecture in schools through the programme entitled ‘Magnet: alliances for educational success’.
The aim of the Magnet programme—promoted by the Jaume Bofill Foundation together with the Catalan Ministry of Education, Barcelona Provincial Council, the Institute of Education Sciences and the Education Consortium—is to support schools in the development of an innovative, quality-based project designed to become a flagship in the region for both families and the educational community.
This is achieved by partnering with a leading institution in a specific field of knowledge that will advise the school during the three-year period for which the project runs.
Leading institution for architecture
The COAC forms part of the Magnet programme by putting into practice its educational programme known as Arqui-escola.
The COAC works directly with the schools involved to develop an educational project related to architecture, proposing different dynamics and workshops such as rethinking the use of spaces in the centre, undertaking an urban planning analysis of the surroundings, preparing a sustainability audit, etc.
To date, the COAC has started collaborating with the Camps Elisis Primary School (Lleida), the Marià Fortuny Primary School (Reus) and the Pere Barnils Secondary School (Centelles).

Call open to candidates for the Architectural Awards of the Counties of Girona 2019

The Girona branch of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC) has convened the Architectural Awards of the Counties of Girona 2019, which this year is being held for the twenty-second time. The aim of the Awards is to give due recognition to architecture produced in the Girona region that demonstrates professional quality and precision.
Projects completed between 1 January and 31 December 2018 are eligible to enter for an award in one of the following categories: Architecture, Interiors, Landscapes and Temporary Structures.
A) Architecture: all types of architectural interventions, including new builds and the renovation and refurbishment of existing properties.
B) Interiors: renovation work and new builds in which the project focuses on the treatment of the interior space, regardless of its scale and type.
C) Landscapes: projects focused on the outdoors, from gardens and parks through to urban interventions of different scales, including streets, squares and buildings associated with the use of open spaces.
D) Temporary Structures: structures with a limited timescale, such as exhibitions, installations and stage sets.
This year, the jury that will assess the projects consists of architect Joan Roig, as president, alongside fellow architects Anna Bassat and Àlex Giménez, as members. Also present will be a member of the current Board of Directors of the Girona branch of the COAC, who will act as a non-voting secretary.
The deadline for submitting material is 2 pm on Friday, 1 March 2019. Please direct any queries to the Girona branch (Tel: 972 41 27 27 or cultura.gir@coac.cat).

La Vocalía de Proyección y Cultura de la Demarcación de Girona del Colegio de Arquitectos de Cataluña (COAC) convoca el Concurso para la contratación de un proyecto de diseño y comisariado de la exposición de la 22ª edición de los Premios de Arquitectura de las Comarcas de Girona 2019.
Habrá una única fase de concurso, y se podrán presentar todas las personas físicas o jurídicas interesadas que estén colegiadas al Colegio de Arquitectos de Cataluña.
El plazo máximo de recepción de solicitudes es a las 13.00 horas del día 20 de marzo de 2019.
