The COAC hosts the General Assembly of the Architects’ Council of Europe
On 22 November, the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) will be holding its General Assembly at the COAC’s headquarters in Plaça Nova. The 43 organisations that form part of the Council, including the CSCAE (the Higher Council of Architects’ Associations of Spain), will all be participating.
Several accompanying events have been organised around the Assembly, some of which will be open to the general public. The most notable of these are the closing event at Espai Simon 100, on 22 November, and the Young Architects' Forum, on 23 November at the COAC.
The programme of activities also includes organised tours for the delegates of the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, the Kàlida Centre, the Institute for Research in Biomedicine, Pavelló de la República CRAI Library, and Casa Bloc in Sant Andreu.
Architects’ Council of Europe
The ACE, which was founded in 1990, is made up of the representative and regulatory national institutions of European Union Member States, plus Switzerland and Norway.
Through its member organisations, the ACE represents the interests of more than 600,000 architects in 31 countries, oversees the promotion of architecture in Europe, and upholds architectural quality and the sustainable development of our built environment. It also advocates for quality in professional practice and cross-border cooperation.

The Association presents the 2019 COAC Medals to 48H Open House and the Jordi Capell Architects’ Cooperative
The Governing Board of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia has decided to award the 2019 COAC Medals to 48H Open House and the Jordi Capell Architects’ Cooperative. With this distinction, the COAC recognises the work undertaken by both entities in sharing information on architectural heritage, architects and architecture.
The COAC Medals are the institutional distinction awarded by the Architects’ Association of Catalonia in recognition of individuals' or entities' contributions to the progress of architecture or the COAC itself.
This year, one of the Medals was awarded to 48H Open House, an event promoted by a non-profit cultural association, 'for its efforts to share the city of Barcelona's architectural heritage and to promote architecture as an essential component of culture'.
This cultural festival, which was visited by more than 60,000 people in 2019, is one of the most successful events of its kind in Barcelona. The award also recognises the volunteer architects who help to raise the general public’s awareness of the values of architecture.
A Medal was also awarded to the Jordi Capell Architects’ Cooperative 'for its contribution to promoting architecture, providing services for architects from a cooperative perspective to provide them with the products to do their jobs, most notably a specialist bookshop on architecture, which has been in operation for 40 years and is now regarded as one of the best bookshops on architecture'.
Furthermore, in response to the diversification of architects' professional practices in order to provide additional services, the Cooperative has become a store specialising in products designed by architects. Since 1979 it has been situated in Plaça Nova, the headquarters of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia, and during these years it has maintained a close and abiding relationship with the COAC’s regional offices, at all times displaying the willingness to serve that characterises it.
In recognition of contributions to the world of architecture
Since 2009, the COAC has regularly awarded the COAC Medals to individuals or entities that have contributed to raising the profile and progress of architecture. Since that time, the Medals have been awarded to individuals such as former deans Francesc Labastida and Joan B. Mur; organisations such as Construmat and ARQUIN-FAD; political figures such as Josep Rull or Santi Vila; and even the Parliament of Catalonia for its contribution in the form of the enactment of the Law on Architecture.

El COAC acull l'Assemblea General del Consell d'Arquitectes d'Europa
Amb motiu de l'Assemblea, s'han organitzat diversos actes paral·lels, alguns dels quals estan oberts al públic. El més destacat és la festa de cloenda a l'Espai Simon 100, el 22 de novembre, i la conferència Young Architects's Forum, el 23 de novembre al COAC. Més informació.

Consell d'Arquitectes d'Europa
El CAE, fundat l'any 1990, està format per les institucions nacionals representatives i regulatòries dels països membres de la Unió Europea, a més de Suïssa i Noruega.
A través de les organitzacions membres, el CAE representa els interessos de més de 600.000 arquitectes de 31 països, i vetlla per la promoció de l'arquitectura a Europa i el foment de la qualitat arquitectònica i el desenvolupament sostenible de l'entorn construït. El COAC otorga las Medallas COAC 2019 al 48H Open House y a la Cooperativa de Arquitectos Jordi Capell
Las Medallas COAC constituyen la condecoración institucional del Colegio de Arquitectos de Cataluña para reconocer la contribución de personas o instituciones al progreso de la arquitectura o del Colegio.
Este año, se otorga una Medalla al 48H Open House, asociación cultural sin ánimo de lucro, "por su labor de divulgación del patrimonio arquitectónico de la ciudad de Barcelona y la promoción de la arquitectura como componente imprescindible de la cultura".
Este festival cultural, con unos 60.000 visitantes en la edición del 2019, es uno de los de más éxito de asistencia en Barcelona. Así, el premio es un reconocimiento también a los arquitectos voluntarios que ayudan a hacer llegar los valores de la arquitectura a la ciudadanía.
Se otorga también una Medalla a la Cooperativa de Arquitectos Jordi Capell "por su contribución al impulso de la arquitectura, dando servicio a los arquitectos desde el ámbito cooperativo para poner a su alcance productos para el ejercicio de la profesión y especialmente una librería especializada en arquitectura, que ha alcanzado 40 años siendo considerada una de las mejores librerías de arquitectura".
Además, respondiendo a la diversificación del ejercicio profesional de los arquitectos, y con el objetivo de ofrecer más servicios, la Cooperativa se ha convertido en la tienda especializada en productos diseñados por arquitectos. Desde 1979 está alojada en Plaça Nova, la sede del Colegio de Arquitectos, y a lo largo de este tiempo ha mantenido una relación estrecha con las sedes territoriales del COAC, de manera resiliente, pero siempre con la voluntad de servicio que la ha caracterizado en estos 40 años.
Las Medallas COAC se entregarán el próximo 4 de noviembre, en el marco del acto institucional del COAC.
Distinguir las aportaciones al mundo de la arquitectura
Desde el 2009, el COAC otorga puntualmente las Medallas COAC a personas o entidades que han contribuido a la visibilización o progreso de la arquitectura. Desde entonces, la han recibido personalidades como los ex-decanos Francesc Labastida y Joan B. Mur, entidades como Construmat BCN y ARQUINFAD o, incluso, responsables políticos, como Josep Rull, Santi Vila y el Parlamento de Cataluña por su contribución a la aprobación de la Ley de la Arquitectura.
