Barcelona City Council and the COAC have released the programme for Model, Barcelona’s brand-new Architecture Festival, which is set to take place from 5 to 15 May, as the first major event celebrating Barcelona’s selection as the World Capital of Architecture for 2026.

THE COAC AND THE BANCO SABADELL FOUNDATION SIGN AN AGREEMENT...
The dean of the COAC, Assumpció Puig, and the president of the Banco Sabadell Foundation, Miquel Molins, have signed a collaboration agreement under which the Foundation will participate in the restoration of the Picasso friezes that surround the COAC headquarters in Barcelona’s Plaça Nova. The Foundation will also collaborate on the exhibition that the COAC is organising for 2023 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso.

In March, the time of pre-enrolment for primary and secondary schools, the schools with which the COAC works to introduce architecture into the classroom made a point of highlighting this important and differentiating factor on their syllabuses.

ON 8 MARCH WE SHOWCASED THE EXCELLENCE OF FEMALE ARCHITECTS
The number of female architects has grown exponentially over the last few decades, but it is still a long way from reaching parity with men: at present, just 32% of all COAC members are women, some ways below the European average of 39%. The number of new memberships show that women are carving out a bigger and bigger niche in architecture, historically a profession dominated by men.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made it necessary to turn Architecture Week into an online event. Aprendre des de casa (Learning from home), the online version of our traditional architecture workshops, made it possible for many children to learn about architecture from their homes through activities organised by architects.

Barcelona prepares its candidacy to be the World Capital of...
The city of Barcelona hopes to be the World Capital of Architecture in 2026 and host the World Congress and General Assembly of the International Union of Architects (IUA). With this goal in mind, the Municipal Plenary approved an Institutional Declaration in 2019 to work closely with the COAC and the CSCAE to present the city's candidacy.

The Secretary for Urban Habitat and Territory, Agustí Serra, and the Dean of the COAC, Assumpció Puig, today chaired the meeting of the Strategic Council of the National Urban Renewal Programme (PNRU) at which the Catalan Government and the 14 technical and municipal bodies involved in the programme signed the Declaration for a PNRU.

New issue of 'Quaderns' explores the cosmetic...
A new issue of the COAC's magazine Quaderns d'Arquitectura i Urbanisme has been published and is now available to members at the various Association offices. Issue number 272 is entitled Cosmetic Techniques. Edited by architects Nuria Casais and Ferran Grau, the new issue of Quaderns explores the cosmetic management of architectural language in a European context, comparing the concepts of order and ornament.
