Unprecedented success of Catalan architects at La Biennale di Venezia
Moreover, this year the Golden Lion for the best national pavilion has been awarded to Spain, thus distinguishing the group of 55 emerging architects, 23 of which are Catalan, and highlighting their creativity and commitment to transcending the limitations of the economic crisis
Without a doubt, the Jury's decision will have been particularly influenced by the experience of Catalan architects in the task of rehabilitating and transforming cities. To all this, we should add that the Biennale's director, the Chilean Alejandro Aravena (winner of the last Pritzker Architecture Prize), selected four Catalan practices for the Biennale's International Architecture Exhibition, ‘Reporting from the Front’: Enric Batlle and Joan Roig; Eduardo Cadaval and Clara Solà-Morales; Fabrizio Barozzi and Alberto Veiga; and Toni Gironès.
Meanwhile, the project ’Aftermath_Architecture beyond architects’, curated by Catalan architects Jaume Prat and Jelena Prokopljević along with filmmaker Isaki Lacuesta, highlights seven public architectural interventions chosen as examples of architecture that improves the relationship between users and their surroundings. The Catalan project has generated considerable interest and critical acclaim and is one of the 30 projects recommended by the Wallpaper magazine.
The COAC would like to congratulate all the Catalan architects taking part for the recognition they have achieved as a result of their professional efforts. At the same time, it wishes to highlight how contemporary Catalan architecture has managed to deal with this far-reaching crisis by exploring new ways of meeting society's needs. Venice has welcomed them as leaders in their field precisely because of this demonstration of sensibility and skill. There is, however, still some way to go: our business network and sector have been so devastated that decisive government support is still needed.

"Absolutamente moder(rr)nos": Cierto Estudio / peris+toral.arquitectes / Takk
Cierto Estudio es un estudio fundado en Barcelona en 2014 y compuesto por Marta Armengol, Marta Benedicto, Paula García-Valdecasas, Ivet Gasol, Carlota de Gispert, Anna Llonch, Lucia Millet y Clara Vidal. El estudio es una suma de ocho cabezas y ocho opiniones que trabajan en un proceso continuo de investigación, creación y evolución. En 2014 obtuvieron una mención especial en la primera edición del Premio Solvia a la Innovación en el Diseño de la Vivienda y actualmente trabajan en sus primeros proyectos de arquitectura, interiorismo y diseño de mobiliario.
peris+toral.arquitectes es un estudio con sede en Barcelona, fundado en 2005 por Marta Peris y José Manuel Toral, que combina su actividad profesional con la académica en la ETSAB y en el IED. Su obra ha sido publicada en libros y revistas especializadas tanto nacionales como internacionales y ha participado en exposiciones colectivas en Tokio, París y en la Bienal de Arquitectura de Venecia de 2016. Han publicado artículos en libros y en revistas y su trabajo ha sido reconocido por distintos premios, como una mención en el Premio Construmat (2015), el premio AJAC Joves Arquitectes (2011), finalistas en el Premio FAD (2009), el Saloni (2009) o el COAVN.
Takk es un estudio fundado en 2010 por Mireia Luzárraga y Alejandro Muiño que combina la práctica profesional con la docencia en la Escuela de Arquitectura de Alicante, el IED de Madrid y el IAAC. Takk entiende la arquitectura principalmente como una práctica crítica en relación directa con la renovación de sus códigos disciplinares. Su trabajo ha recibido diversos premios, entre ellos el FAD (2011, apartado Intervenciones Efímeras), seleccionados en la edición de 2014 del mismo premio y en la catalogación en las dos últimas ediciones de Arquia Próxima. Su trabajo ha sido publicado en diversas revistas especializadas y su obra ha sido expuesta en el CCCB, ARCO, MACBA o FAD.
